What is Safer Ipswich Central?
‘Safer Ipswich Central’ is a dedicated, formal and pro-active partnership between businesses, the Police, Ipswich Borough Council, CCTV and other crime reduction schemes, agencies and organisations.
The aim is to reduce the burden that crime creates for businesses in Ipswich and to maintain a pleasant environment at all times for town centre visitors. Membership brings day-to-day benefits that immediately help to protect your business.
Radio Scheme
Members of Safer Ipswich Central have access to the ‘Radiolink’ scheme, which is one of the largest and most successful schemes in the UK. This gives automatic communication to the town centre Police, CCTV, Street Rangers and other users. As soon as an offence is committed or looks likely to be committed, help is on hand as information about the offender and the offence is communicated to a number of key individuals and organisations within the town centre. Full radio training and back up is provided as part of the scheme.
Business Crime Information System
Membership of Safer Ipswich Central allows access to the Crime Information System which holds details on the most serious, prolific and professional criminals. Information, including photographs, is made available to the members of the scheme and is updated several times a week. Town centre statistics are also easily obtained from this database and are available to all members.
Safer Business Award
Ipswich town centre is officially on the right track to becoming
a safer place for shoppers and workers. The shopping and business district has received an award which recognises its progress in tackling town centre crime. The Action Against Business Crime Organisation presented the Safer Business Award in recognition of the work the whole town has done to crack down on crime.
The Organisation’s David Leigh said:
“It’s an award that is not given lightly. Crime impacts on people’s behaviour, for example where they shop, where they visit and where they park their cars. The Safer Business Award sets out to encourage strong and affectionate local partnerships. It is to motivate those who are responsible for management of town and city centres to aspire to high standards."
