SPIRIT OF XMAS SAVED BY BOY BAND STAR!
27-Nov-09
The popular singer, who came to fame as part of the group ’Blue’, will be starring in the Regent’s production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. As the second of five spectacular festive events, Anthony continued the countdown to Christmas last night.
Crowds stopped and looked on in amazement as the Christmas drama unfolded before their eyes. Giant footprints appeared overnight and covered the streets of Ipswich. With the Cornhill covered in darkness, the Evening Star Christmas tree lights had all been turned off, and the giant from ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ had escaped from the theatre and was reeking havoc!
Arriving spectacularly on an open top bus, Anthony, or ‘Jack’, came to the rescue and was able to save the day. Shoppers and onlookers alike cheered as Jack threw some of his beans at the tree, which worked their magic restoring light and Christmas cheer to all.
Crowds were also offered the chance to win tickets to this year’s Ipswich Pantomime as they scoured the Town Centre to find Jack and The Beanstalk’s very own Daisy The Cow.
It is estimated that around 5,000 people made their way to the town for the first of five late night shopping events on Thursday evening. Those doing so were able to enjoy a magical experience complete with Santa procession, music and a spectacular snowfall.
Paul Clement, executive director of Ipswich Central, said: “We are delighted that Anthony Costa was in town to help us celebrate the festive season in such a fun and exciting way.
“After the immense success of last week’s late night shopping event, we are confident that the public will enjoy the exciting festive treats we have to offer in the coming weeks.
“There will be something for adults and children alike.”
Shoppers are being encouraged to enjoy the festivities across the five weeks – using Park and Ride wherever possible to make for an even more ‘stress free’ Christmas shopping experience. Suffolk Passenger Transport has extended the service with the season in mind and shoppers can benefit from the service up to 9.45pm.
This year's Christmas shopping nights take place on Thursday 26th November, and 3rd, 10th and 17th December.
