Ipswich Central to support Earth Hour
12-Mar-08
Across the globe at 8pm on 29th March 2008 businesses, homes, schools and major landmarks will be turning off their lights for an hour to support global Earth Hour.
As a part of its ongoing campaign to make Ipswich town centre greener, Ipswich Central will be supporting Earth Hour by switching off its lights for an hour and also encouraging local businesses to follow suit.
“If everyone in Ipswich turns off their lights and ensures their TVs, computers and DVD players are not left on stand-by for just one hour on Saturday 29th March it will be a step in the right direction – and if they continue to think about these small steps every day it will make an ongoing difference to the environment,” Paul Clement, Executive Director of Ipswich Central explained. “Earth Hour will see people across the globe making the effort to save energy, which is something Ipswich Central feels very strongly about supporting.”
“To pledge their support business and individuals can sign up at www.earthhour.org. So far almost 3,000 businesses have signed up across the globe and we are keen to see many more from Ipswich town centre adding their names to the list.”
Earth Hour will take place the day before Ipswich Central’s first ever environmentally friendly day in Ipswich town centre. The Go Green event will allow businesses to showcase their green initiatives, fair trade goods, locally sourced products and recycling schemes to the general public.
